Community Center Gets New Flooring

August 31, 2023

The Community Center was built in 1980.  Since then, the carpeting has been replaced.  Over the past couple of weeks, the center has been closed through September 1st as the flooring throughout the entire building underwent a complete makeover along with improvements to storage areas.

The upgrades were funded with grants from the South Central Iowa Community Foundation, Lamoni Hammer Fund, and ROCCS (Restoring Our County, Community, and Schools) totaling $18,582.  “The city is so fortunate to have the support of these local organizations,” said Barb Stuck, Administrator / Clerk. "The new flooring looks great and is such an improvement to this community facility,”

The Lamoni Community Center is the hub for many government and civic meetings, celebrations, and festivals like the upcoming LAFF – Lamoni Annual Fall Festival – event.  The Lamoni City Council meets at 7:00 PM on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.  City commissions and advisory boards meet there also.  It provides space for support groups.  Individuals and groups can rent specific rooms or the entire building for meetings, reunions, receptions, and other activities.  The center is also home to the Parks and Recreation Department and its director, Director Tim Brunner.  Brunner, working with community members, plans and develops recreation programs and activities, leagues, and tournaments.  He oversees the operation and maintenance of parks and recreation facilities.

“The Community Center is a vital part of Lamoni,” Mayor Doug Foster said. “It provides a place for people and organizations to come together for recreation, education, social interaction, and local organization and government meetings.”
