New Addition to the West Trailhead

Kyle Leonard, Trails Commission President on August 07, 2023

If you have been out to the Lamoni Recreational Trail's West trailhead (Liberty Hall) in lately you may have noticed a new addition: a Dero bike repair station! This is situated on the right-hand side of the trail, next to the bench and trail map. The Lamoni Trails Commission wrote a R.O.C.C.S. (Restoring Our County, Community and Schools) grant this past spring to purchase a bike repair station and we were delighted to receive $1,636 to help cover a significant portion of the cost. In conjunction with this grant, the City provided local option sales tax funds for the remaining $600 or so in addition to providing the concrete slab on which it is installed.

Public Works installed the repair stand on July 25 and it is now available for users to utilize. This is the second bike repair stand to be installed along the Lamoni Recreational Trail (the other being between the Community Center, City Hall, and Central Park). The additional repair stand provides cyclists utilizing the trail and the ability to maintain and repair their bicycles prior to or midway through their trail usage. The repair stand comes equipped with attached air pump, hanger arms to accommodate your bike while making repairs or adjustments, and all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. We hope this addition provides increased convenience and safety for trail users!

We would like to thank R.O.C.C.S. for providing us the grant, Brent Marvin for creating the concrete pad, the City of Lamoni for providing local option sales tax dollars, Barb Stuck for coordinating the purchase and install, Curt Shields for installing the repair stand, and Liberty Hall for allowing the additions to the trailhead on their property.
